Full Wolf Moon Energy

The Energy of the Wolf Moon

January's full moon, known as the Wolf Moon, is traditionally tied to the time when wolves are most likely to be heard howling. Though early beliefs suggested that the howls were driven by hunger during the harsh winter months, we now understand that wolves' howls serve a deeper purpose.

They use howling to locate pack members, reinforce social bonds, define territory, and coordinate hunts. These behaviors illustrate the wolf's strong sense of community, but also their independence and self-sufficiency.

The name Wolf Moon is thought to have originated from Native American culture, referencing the wolves’ presence and behavior in mid-winter. However, some research suggests that the term may also have roots in Anglo-Saxon traditions. Regardless of its origin, the Wolf Moon calls upon the energy of the wild, the untamed, and the deep wisdom that comes from within.

Wolf Visualization Practice

Close your eyes and invite the energy of the wolf into your awareness. Visualize the wolf howling beneath the full moon.

What is she doing? Is she seeking her pack, or is she relishing the solitude of the night? How does it feel to be in her presence?

The Wolf Spirit Animal embodies deep qualities such as intuition, freedom, a balance between solitude and connection, loyalty, courage, and determination to walk your true path.

While wolves are often seen as pack animals, they are also creatures of independence. Sometimes, they leave their pack to seek autonomy, form a new pack, or find a territory that better suits their needs. The structure of wolf packs is more complex than we may realize—often resembling a family unit with diverse dynamics.

Wolves are not always bound by the same roles, and their relationships within the pack are fluid, allowing for both cooperation and individual freedom.

This duality of independence and community invites us to reflect on how we balance our own needs for connection with our need for personal space and self-exploration.

Reflection Questions:

  • How have I been domesticated or molded to fit into someone else’s expectations?

  • Where in my life am I conforming to a box that no longer serves me?

  • What practices help me feel connected to my inner wisdom?

  • Is my community nourishing or depleting me, and why?

  • What parts of me feel rejected? Can you share a gentle message with them?

  • Where can I celebrate the conscious choice of the 'Lone Wolf' energy?

  • How can I embrace more of my vibrant, wild nature and distinguish between genuine hunger and superficial desires?

Howling Practice

Set a timer for five minutes. Stand comfortably, take a few deep breaths, and begin to howl—just like a wolf calling out into the wilderness. If howling feels uncomfortable, start by humming and gradually connect to the energy of the wolf within. Allow your voice to rise and fall naturally, feeling the resonance in your body. This practice can help release emotions, ground your energy, and strengthen your connection to your instinctual nature.

Embracing the Wolf’s Wisdom

The Wolf Moon reminds us to embrace our instincts, to trust in our inner wisdom, and to honor both our need for solitude and our desire for connection. Just as wolves sometimes leave the pack to seek their path, we too are invited to step into the wilderness of our inner world, trusting that we will always find our way back when the time is right.

As we journey through this full moon, let us remember the balance between independence and community, between the wild and the tame. Let us howl to the moon, releasing what no longer serves us and welcoming the transformation and growth that comes from reconnecting with our true nature.

The Full Moon Energy

The full moon illuminates the world around us, recharging nature and our bodies with its radiant light. It embodies the archetype of the mother and the peak of summer energy—nourishing, expansive, and all-knowing.

Just as summer brings a time of growth, fullness, and manifestation, the full moon also represents the culmination of efforts, a moment to witness the fruits of our labor, and a time to align with the potent energies of completion.

Historically, the full moon has been a time for gathering, manifesting, and harnessing the power of the yang energy—the gentle yet powerful force that propels forward momentum, transformation, and movement.

This is an energy of nurturing, both inwardly and outwardly, reminding us that creation is not only about doing but a balance of giving and receiving - reciprocity.

At this time, you may feel a surge of creativity, an urge to engage with the world or connect with others. Alternatively, you may feel a need for nourishment, a call to slow down and draw the energy within. The full moon offers the opportunity to pause, reflect, and realign with what is truly calling for your attention.

Practices for the Full Moon:

  1. 5-Minute Shake Dance: Express all that has been left unexpressed within. Put on some music that moves you and allow your body to move freely, releasing any pent-up energy. Whether it's joy, frustration, excitement, or sadness—let the dance be a moment of liberation. Shake off the old, and open space for the new.

  2. 5-Minute Lying Down: Find a comfortable space to lie down. Close your eyes, and bring your awareness to a specific place within your body where your intention resides. Perhaps it’s your heart, your womb, your solar plexus—where do you cradle that energy? Direct the full moon’s energy to this place, visualizing it becoming empowered and magnified. Feel the nurturing power of the moon infuse you, empowering your intention with clarity and strength.

Mars Retrograde in Cancer: Reflect, Recalibrate, and Nurture Your Emotional Foundations

Mars, the planet of action, drive, and passion, governs our confidence, energy, and desire.

When Mars goes retrograde, which it did from December 6, 2024, and will continue until February 23, 2025, that energy turns inward, inviting us to slow down and reassess our motivations.

Shifting Perspectives

During Mars retrograde your desires and intentions may shift. This period may shine a light on past dreams that no longer serve you, leading to a questioning of your path. As these changes unfold, it may feel like you're “rocking the boat.” Sometimes, our visions and dreams can pull us out of the present moment, and if we’re not anchored in gratitude and presence, it can create resistance or a feeling of being stuck.

The key to finding balance is love—remembering your purpose and grounding yourself in the present.

Each moment is an opportunity to pour your energy into what you’re calling in. If things aren’t unfolding as expected, it’s easy to feel hopeless or like you're not moving forward. This is where love, presence, and gratitude come in—let them anchor you as you work through these shifts.

Is there a skill or knowledge you’ve been wanting to expand? Let your mind anchor in that, while your love moves you gently forward like a boat on the water.

Moon Meditation

Sidereal Astrology

Sidereal vs. Tropical Astrology

Sidereal astrology uses the real positions of the stars in the sky to create your chart. It differs from tropical astrology. Because the Earth’s position slowly shifts over time, sidereal astrology reflects where the stars actually are today, while tropical astrology keeps the zodiac signs fixed to the seasons. As a result, your zodiac sign might be different in sidereal astrology compared to tropical astrology.

Sun in Sagittarius: Fire Sign

Sagittarius (Fire) - Expanding Our Horizons, Planting New Seeds, and Stopping Playing Small

The Sun in Sagittarius brings with it a call to expand our horizons, plant new seeds, and release ourselves from the constraints of playing small.

When I envision Sagittarius, I am drawn to the image of the Centaur—a being with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a horse. This duality carries profound symbolism. The horse represents untamed, primal energy, strength, and loyalty, while the human archer with a poised bow symbolizes purpose, precision, and a clear direction.

This juxtaposition of wild freedom and grounded power is dynamic. It reflects a dance between instinct and intellect, between the animal’s raw force and the human’s calculated aim. The Centaur, always in motion, evokes boundless vibrancy and the spirit of exploration.

With Sagittarius' expansive, visionary energy, this week calls us to broaden our perspective.

This is a reminder that our charisma and creative expression are powerful tools for connecting with others. We have the potential to illuminate areas where others may feel lost or uncertain—whether through conversation, art, or creative endeavors.

This week is a reminder of your innate light—a spark in the dark.

Journal Prompt:

  • What are you passionate about and would like to share with others?

  • Is there a topic, skill, or gift that you'd like to explore and express more fully, both for yourself and the collective?

  • How can you begin planting the seeds of this vision today?

Moon on the Gemini-Cancer Cusp

Emotional Exploration & Intellectual Curiosity

As the Full Moon rises on the Gemini-Cancer cusp, the collective energy is inviting us to deeply explore our emotional landscapes while remaining intellectually curious. This phase encourages us to honor both our emotional depth and our need for understanding and communication.

It is a time to feel and reflect, but also to share insights and ideas that connect us to one another. The Moon encourages us to step into our emotions without judgment, while also seeking the wisdom that arises from these emotional tides.

This duality nurtures growth both inwardly and outwardly, bringing healing through intellectual exchange and emotional exploration.

Balance Between Softness & Resilience

The Moon’s influence on the Gemini-Cancer cusp reminds us that strength can coexist with vulnerability. As we navigate the emotional waves that arise during this full moon, we are called to balance the softness of Cancer's nurturing energy with the adaptability and curiosity of Gemini. This alignment encourages the collective to embrace emotional fluidity and resilience—allowing vulnerability and sensitivity to coexist with intellectual adaptability and outward expression. As we welcome our emotional complexities, we also allow ourselves the flexibility to share our truths and learn from each other.

A Call to Slow Down & Hold Space

Under this Full Moon, the collective energy is urging us to slow down and truly sit with our emotions. As a community, we are invited to hold space for all feelings—whether joy, discomfort, or uncertainty. This is a time to honor our emotional truths without rushing into action or understanding. By permitting ourselves to pause, we create an opportunity for collective healing. These moments of stillness provide the clarity needed to transform and integrate the wisdom of our emotional experiences. Trust that what arises in this phase serves as a gift for personal and collective growth.

Tools for Collective Emotional Presence:

  • Anchoring Breath: Take deep, conscious breaths, grounding ourselves in the present moment and creating space for emotional awareness.

  • Mantra Practice: The mantra “I have space,” reminds us that we can hold space for all emotions, both individually and together.

  • Visualization: Imagine a collective sphere of glowing energy surrounding the world, cradling each person with warmth, safety, and support.

Full Moon Ritual

Holding Space and Nurturing Emotions

Preparation:

  1. Find a quiet, comfortable space where you can sit undisturbed for a few minutes.

  2. Gather a candle (optional), a soft blanket, or anything that feels comforting and grounding to you.

Set the Intention:

  • Begin by closing your eyes and taking a few deep breaths.

  • Inhale deeply, allowing the breath to fill your belly, and exhale fully.

  • As you breathe, silently repeat the mantra: "I have space."

  • Set the intention for the ritual: "I am creating space to hold and nurture my emotions, honoring both myself and the collective."

Create an Anchor:

  • Visualize a soft, gentle, yet strong energy surrounding you, like a protective embrace.

  • Imagine this energy radiating from your heart, expanding to envelop your loved ones and the collective.

  • Feel its warmth and security. You are safe to experience whatever arises.

Gentle Breathwork:

  • Inhale deeply through your nose, counting to 4.

  • Hold the breath for a moment.

  • Exhale slowly through your mouth, counting to 6.

  • Repeat this cycle for 3-5 rounds, allowing the breath to anchor you further into the present moment.

Acknowledge Your Emotions:

  • Sit in stillness for a moment and check in with yourself.

  • What emotions are arising? Allow them to surface without judgment.

  • Whether they are light or heavy, acknowledge them as valid and part of your experience.

  • Place your hand over your heart and gently say, "I hold space for this emotion."

Close with Gratitude:

  • As the ritual comes to an end, take a moment to express gratitude.

  • Thank yourself for showing up, for holding space for your emotions, and for the nourishment you’ve given to your soul.

  • If you have a candle, light it and say, “May this light guide me through the week, bringing warmth, clarity, and healing.”

Final Affirmation:

  • Before concluding, say softly to yourself: "I am anchored. I am held. I have space for all that arises."
